Good condition. Surface scratches and old wear especially on two caracters of the inscription.

Catalogue Note
The scene depicts a scholar burning the midnight oil on the mid-night. The inscription reads: 'the stars and moon glisten brightly. The milky way is in the sky'.
These bottles are found either in the classic ovoid flattened shape standing on a foot with the Daoguang mark, either in a more unusual egg shape unmarked. Both are recorded in the Qing Court collection, see Snuff Bottles. The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 2003, p.227, no.336 and 362.
A marked type from the Meriem collection was sold at Christie's New York, 19 September 2007, lot 668.
