Description

dated AH 1294 (c.1876 AD) in both spandrels
Condition
Pile in good condition overall, approximately 5mm in depth. Some slight oxidisation of walnut borders. Sides re-overcast. Both ends with remnants of original macrame knotted fringes and original guards. Repaired sections to edges. Top right corner rewoven and fringe lacking. Opposing corner, lower left corner, rewoven including section of fringe (`L'-shaped section 9cm. x 8cm). Other small areas of repair around edges, for example section 6cm. x 4cm. approx. (lower end). and 4cm. x 2cm (top left side). Section of reweaving to main field, central section, which forms vertically orientated gentle stepped shaped sections, approx. 17cm. x 3cm. and 20cm. x 4cm. Good colour and flexible handle.
