the polychrome laid and couched silk embroidery on a fine cotton ground
Condition
The panel (comprised of one width) is lined with cream silk lining. This panel has evidence of hand repairs overall. The ground has some small dark spots and stains, and rust marks generally (many of which are visible in the photograph). There are areas of hand repair, and a particular area centre of lower edge of border. Ground repairs generally. There is a hole in the far left corner, which will need some attention. Embroidered silk threads are 18th century and later. There is some faint running in colour. The 18th century orange is darker in colour. The lighter orange areas and repairs are later, and the colour has run into the pale ground. The 18th century pink is darker and the later pink areas are brighter hues. There are repairs to the leaf motifs, later worked in various shades of greens. Some purple staining to ground, bottom left corner. New bright blue areas to the narrow border. Some threads are loose due to loss of couching threads, see for example an area of the outer blue border left side.
