Catalogue Note
For a related piece, compare the rock crystal mace-head attributed to the reign of al-Hakim (r.996-1021) in the Museum of Islamic Art, Cairo (ex-Hariri Collection, inv.no.15445) (London 1976, no.105, p.126; Trésors Fatimides du Caire, Paris, 1998, no.86, p.140; Schätze der Kalifen, Islamische Kunst zur Fatimidenzeit, Vienna, 1998, no.105, pp.132-33). However, given the diminutive scale of the present piece it seems unlikely that it was used as a mace-head.
