of rectangular form standing on bracket feet, with stepped bevelled hinged cover with central boss, lock to front, inlaid with wood, mother-of-pearl and bone, the front with a central stellar medallion flanked by panels of diaper palmettes, bordered by silver wire zizag bands, the rim inlaid with a figure holding a rifle, birds and a banner with inscription, the sides and reverse with a stellar medallion encircled by scrolling tendrils with mother-of-pearl terminals, the cover with stellar medallion decorating the boss flanked by panels and bands of diamond trellis, the interior with pen compartment

Condition

minor loss to inlay with associated consolidation, narrow cracks to lid with associated repair, areas of worming no longer active, as viewed.
