Catalogue Note
This cuirass is known as a char-aina after the Persian term meaning 'four mirrors'. The present set originates from India and probably dates to the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. However, the floral damascened (engraved and inlaid) decoration on the border reflects the Mughal influence of the seventeenth century.
