Condition

Losses to the end of the forward projecting mouth, due to great age, small loss along the bottom left eyelid. Superficial insects damage to the face, stabilized, as visible in the catalogue illustration. Interior: small loss along the top edge.

Mi-homme, mi-oiseau, le visage s'articule en une succession de volumes puissamment projetés dans l'espace - la tension accentuée par les lignes convergentes du bec et du front en visière, et par le rythme serré opposant plans brefs et courbes étirées. Il a conservé, à l'extrémité du front, un fer rituel.

cf. Vandenhoute (1948 : 49, n° 1) pour un masque stylistiquement apparenté, provenant du village de Flanpleu, à la limite des styles Dan et Wobé, et attribué au Maître Kmantadouwe (mort en 1904).

Ici la superbe usure - tant sur la face externe qu'interne - et la profondeur de la patine attestent son ancienneté.
