Catalogue Note

This painting is sold with photos of the artist painting the work and Artspeak Studio Gallery descriptive notes about the painting that read in part: 'in this painting, the artist gives symbolic expression to a sacred mountain known as Kerrinyarra, which is situated in the Napperby (Larumba) area in Anmatyerre territory. Understood as meaning "love song", Kerrinyarra is connected to another sacred site known as Ngarlu (love story country), where a Napaltjarri girl and her Tjapaltjarri brother were born to an infamous couple who were killed for breaking tribal marriage laws. In that, the couple were considered to be of the "wrong skin" for marriage and sequentially brought two "wrong skin" children into the world: the Napaltjarri girl and her Tjapaltjarri brother'.
