The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This painting is generally in very good condition. It has been recently restored and should be hung as is. The canvas has been recently relined and retouched. The paint layer is not damaged in any way. Despite the rather eccentric way that the painting shows under ultraviolet light almost none of the dark marks visible seem to correspond to real retouches. The painting has been cleaned unevenly yet not inappropriately. There are some retouches in the upper centre near the edge of the picture, one spot in the upper right and a small group at the top of the rifle being held by the second and smaller figure. Overall the picture is in very good condition.
