A George II carved giltwood cartel clock

The dial inscribed Hutchinson / NORWICH, the reverse of the clock with a penciled number V1241.

Un-restored condition with losses to gilding throughout, traces of original water-gilding underneath, appears to have a later layer of varnish which has now darkened and with craquelure; repaired breaks to legs of rooster and with chips to beak, loss to one claw and repairs to tips of plumage, with a later metal brace to the back; separation at lines of construction of rocaille cresting (see photo); losses to gilding and gesso including areas to the breast of rooster, sides of rocaille cresting and to foliate scrolls at top right, top left, bottom right and bottom left corners; losses and restorations to tips of foliage flanking the case; repaired breaks to C-scroll and part of the flamework molding to the case to top right corner; old repaired break to right leaf tip of out-scrolled foliage of right side with losses to gilding of surround; tip to left side of cabochon pendant to apron replaced; the dial associated; movement possibly associated.
