A [gnew] & SONS, / MANCHESTER ,...LIVERPOOL / 14 EXCHANGE STREET...EXCHANGE GALLERY / ...DALE STREET / LO...ON / OLD BOND STREET GALLERIES, / PICCADILLY., the back board with a partial paper label inscribed in ink Ashton. Cresting, swags and apron associated.
Condition
Overall good condition; cresting, apron and leaf swags, associated; cresting slightly loose; old glued repaired break to lion's tail on cresting; cresting, apron and swags appear to have an old varnish on top of the gilding; chips to the gesso of the grape-leaf swags; separation at lines of construction of the outer frame with subsequent small losses to the gesso and gilding, now with inpainting; the mirror frame with age cracks to the molded edges with some small inpainted chips to the gilding and gesso; age cracks to the ebonized inner frame; the convex mirror glass with flaking and loss to the silvering to the upper right edge of glass; some tarnishing to the silvering of the mirror glass; areas of inpainting to some of the gilt-balls to the frame; the frame appears to retain its original gilding; overall with small chips, wear, dirt and scratches to the gilding.
