The marble top with scratches; some chips to top edge of the table showing gesso; overall with some chips and losses to the gilding showing gesso in places; minor age cracks in places and old worm damage apparent to the frieze; the gilding is dirty; the tip of two mermaids' tails have been replaced; tip of one mermaid's tail has a loss; tip of another mermaid's tail has a repaired chip; two small losses to the carving of the floral swag to one long side.

The present model is executed after the celebrated center table made in the 18th century by Georges Jacob and commissioned by the Comte D'Artois for his library decorated dans le gout turc at Versailles. The original is now in the permanent collection of the Musée du Louvre (inv. OA 5234). Georges Jacob (1739-1814), recu maître in 1765.
