The body of the vase with some chips to the painted surface around the rim and with some inpainting; the body with minor surface scratches and wear; the base with wear, scratches and tarnishing in places; two pins to the top which support the vase are broken off.

The Durenne foundry was one of the two major foundries of art castings during the 19th century. The firm was started by Alexandre Durenne in 1847 with the acquisition of a small foundry at Sommevoire. Growth of the foundry was rapid and by the early 1860s Durenne was producing a vast array of statuary, fountains, and vases. The firm exhibited at numerous international exhibitions.
