As visible in the catalogue illustration the gilt-bronze capitals and foliate bandings are extensively tarnished and with green oxidation damages although one can see the gilding showing through; expected large chips to square granite bases at edges; the fluted columns with minor chips to edges and with surface scratches; most of the floral cast bandings decorating the lower part of the columns are detached but present in a bag with this lot and approximately 70% of them appear to be later-cast.

The Corinthian capitals of these columns are based on the celebrated model designed by Pierre Gouthière circa 1775-1780, and now in the permanent collection du mobilier national Français at the Musée du Louvre (inv. MR XI 1077). The original column was of red porphyry and was lot 122 in the sale of the duc d'Aumont's collections on December 12, 1782.
