Overall in good condition with the usual minor scratches, dents and nicks to veneers and carcass consistent with age and use. Slight tarnishing to gilt-bronze in places. The bronzes have been cleaned but not regilded. The marble with the usual chips to edges and scratches to surface consistent with age. There is a professionally repaired break to the marble top from back to front located in the middle of the marble slab. There are losses to the mahogany edges at the front rounded corners beneath the marble.

The present commode is based on the model executed by the eighteenth century ébéniste Guillaume Benneman (reçu maître1785), which was adapted from a model by Joseph Stöckel (reçu maître1775) and supplied to Queen Marie-Antoinette in 1786 for the Salon des jeux at Fontainebleau.
