All gilt bronzes have been cleaned but not re-gilded, the veneers are in good condition and presentation; please note that the two front gilt-bronze sabots have been pierced through the toes; the marble with minor scratches and wear; the edges of the front corners appear to have been sanded and now show the carcass.

Although apparently unsigned the present lot bears all hallmarks from François Linke's workshop with its fleur de pêcher marble top, its fine cut marquetry and choice of veneers. The present model only differs from Linke's index number 126 with the "crab-like acanthus" cast mount centering the apron, all other decorative aspect of the mounts, marquetry and parquetry are present. Gaine or pedestal index number 126 was designed in 1892 and this popular model was produced until the last was made in 1930.
