Description

  • height 31 3/4 in.; 27 1/2 in.
  • 80.5 cm; 70 cm
the large charger painted with an official portrait of Napoleon I and inscribed to the back Napoleon I in Or(?)at and 1909, with impressed marks PL and shield beneath a crown.

Condition

The table is dirty; cracks visible around the frieze as a result of shrinkage and now showing gesso; dirt inside composite applied decoration to the table and with losses to composite decoration especially to one support; the stretcher decorated with a porcelain plaque painted with Josephine; the plaque is very dirty and stained; the gilt-metal pierced foliate frames of the oval portrait plaques are dirty and tarnished and with traces of green oxidation; the central charge is protected by a glass top; age cracks to the giltwood molded edge showing gesso; the top rests on the support but is not attached and can be hung on the wall if desired.
