Condition

This condition report has been provided by Hamish Dewar, Hamish Dewar Ltd. Fine Art Conservation, 14 Masons Yard, Duke Street, St James's, London SW1Y 6BU. Structural Condition The canvas has been lined and this has successfully stabilised the textured and impastoed paint surface and no further structural intervention is required. It is encouraging to note that the lining process has not adversely affected the surface textures. Paint surface The paint surface has a reasonably even but slightly discoloured varnish layer and cleaning could therefore be considered. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows retouchings which are predominately around the framing edges and it would appear that the turnover edges have been extended (and then retouched) on the left vertical and upper and lower horizontal edges. There are otherwise just very minimal scattered retouchings. Summary The painting would therefore appear to be in very good and stable condition and should respond well to cleaning and revarnishing should this be required.
