Catalogue Note

Nowhere is Israels' love for plein air painting better felt than in his depiction of ladies on the beach or in the dunes. Amongst his favorite models were Sophie Cramer, the writer Ina Boudier-Bakker and the actress Sofie de Vries. He once portrayed Jacqueline Royaards-Sandberg in a white dress, not unlike the one depicted on the model here, stating: Wat was het mooi, die witte omhulsels van je laatst, het is wel geloof ik waar ik het meeste van houd, wit en blank, maar je moet het niet oververtellen! Ik weet het wel, alles is mooi, een schooier, een kruidenier maar het is toch heerlijk om je over te geven aan je instinctieve preferenties.
