Condition
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:
This painting has been recently restored and should be hung as is. The canvas is lined and the paint layer is stable, still nicely textured and clean. Overall this picture is in very good state.
Some pentiments are visible in the sky above the buildings in the center and in the sky on the right where there is the texture of the paint of an earlier tree trunk which Corot later painted out. The wispy nature of the foreground is intended and has not been over cleaned. A couple of cracks in the lower center immediately to the left of the buildings have been retouched. In the lower left edge a group of retouches have been applied, most likely to address some pentiments or possibly thinness. Elsewhere there is a small group of retouches around the silver branch on the left side half way up the picture. Other than this
there are no restorations and the picture is in very good state.
