Catalogue Note

Thérèse was a young girl from Normandy hired by Wlérick to help his wife look after their three young children. She arrived in 1927 at the age of eighteen and quickly adapted to fashionable Parisian life as she cut her long red hair into a modern bob. The maid soon became the artist's model and Wlérick created more than 30 drawings and several sculptures of her over the next two years. These figures were amongst the most sensitively observed sculptures of his oeuvre.
