Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good. There is some general wear and minor dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is slight spotting to the patina throughout. There are some minor losses to the patina on the left arm and hand, and on the rock below.

Catalogue Note

The Monument to the Grandchildren of Queen Victoria was the single most important and influential commission of Dalou's time in London and a testament of his great reception in England. This bronze is taken from a maquette for the figure of the seated child on the right of the angel in the finished monument.
