Catalogue Note

Alfred Finot was a student of the sculptor Ernest-Louis Barrias and L'Aurore has strong echoes of the master's famous figure Nature Unveiling Herself to Science, as the demi-nude figure lifts her drapery over her head. The style, however, is closer to Art Nouveau as the soft curves of form and drapery seem to melt into one another in subtle undulations.
