Work on first canvas, but not on original loom. From a first hand inspection there are some small losses in the background over the woman's head probably due to humidity visible on the back of the canvas. The ultra violet light reveals thick fluorescent varnish dishomogeneously spread over the surface. Small retouches are visible over the woman's cheeks, hairs and hands. It is suggested a light cleansing. The overall condition as to the state of preservation is good.

L'opera qui proposta appartiene alla maturità dell'artista, che dopo una produzione di soggetti storici e mitologici - da buon allievo del Gordigiani e del Muzzioli all'Accademia di Firenze - si concentra sul paesaggio toscano, improntando la propria arte a un verismo non scevro di accenti intimisti.

Faldi ritrae una fanciulla pensosa, immersa in un'atmosfera resa suggestiva dalla luce che si affaccia dalle nuvole tratteggiando lunghe strisce alterne di luce e ombra. Il paesaggio sfuma da un primo piano estremamente dettagliato con lucidi fili d'erba e foglie carnose, in uno sfondo suggerito da piccoli tocchi quasi impressionisti.

Si tratta di un esempio raffinato e introspettivo della rara e selezionata produzione di questo artista.
