3 volumes, comprising (a) small private devotional book in Italian and Latin on vellum, with various prayers and directions for Church services in Italian, such as how much one holds up the Host and the chalice, and what to reply when the priest asks the brothers and sisters to pray, 153 leaves, 92mm. by 54mm., wanting a single leaf, collation: i8, ii5 (i wanting), iii10, iv12, v14, vi-xiii 10, xiv8, xv10, xvi6, horizontal catchwords in elaborate penwork cartouches, written space 46mm. by 40mm., single column, 11-14 lines in dark brown ink in a number of Gothic bookhands (some ink flaking from leaves and a few pages with significant loss of text), rubrics and underlining in red, small initials touched in red, numerous one- to 3-line initials throughout in alternate red and blue with penwork tracery to contrast, nineteenth-century binding of stamped leather over pasteboards, Italy (orthographic features indicating Veneto), mid-fifteenth century; (b) fragment of a manuscript of the Sermons of Jacobus de Voragine in Latin on paper (including St. Bartholomew, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, St. Maurice, the 11,000 virgins, SS. Simon and Jude, St. Augustine and St. Cecilia), 14 leaves, 289mm. by 285mm., wanting leaves from beginning and end, and last two leaves with loss to outer vertical edge (both affecting text), collation: i14, written space 214mm. by 180mm., double column, 51 lines in dark brown ink in an accomplished Gothic German hand, rubrics and underlining in red, small initials touched in red, numerous 2-line initials in red, some very minor worming in lower margin, in nineteenth-century card binding with number "1592" on paper ticket pasted to front board, rustholes on last leaf showing it was once in an earlier binding at the back of the volume, Germany, fifteenth century; (c) Legal Commentary in Latin on paper, 24 leaves (5 blank), 280mm. by 210mm., apparently complete, collation: i14, ii10, written space 206mm. by 129mm., single column, c. 35 lines in dark brown ink in a small cursive hand, watermarks close to Briquet nos. 2750 (Rome, 1347) & 2757 (Florence, 1427), in nineteenth-century card binding, Italy, mid-fifteenth century; all in good condition
