Catalogue Note
Designed in the French style, the present stools are of a rare form, being shaped and carved on both long sides. Most long stools of this period were designed with upright scrolled arms and were intended to sit within window piers, unlike the present pair which were obviously intended to be moveable. They were probably originally part of a larger suite of seat furniture which would have included arm chairs and sofas.
