Catalogue Note
Like his younger brother, the artist Laurits Andersen Ring (see lots 280 and 281), Ole Ring was born in the village of Ring. When his brother became apprenticed to a housepainter in Praestø, Ole Ring would take over his father's carpentry workshop. Both would illustrate the calm beauty of the small towns of the Sjaelland island to great effect. Ole Ring's elegant and sparsely-populated Copenhagen scenes as well as his village works are careful portraits of a distinctive Danish stillness, capturing the changing seasons, quality of light and atmosphere with pristine detail.
