Condition
Overall in good condition with the usual minor scratches, wear and discoloration to patina consistent with age and use. Minor dents and nicks in places to surface. Slight traces of dirt. Loss of approximately two inches to the pearl-cast banding.

Catalogue Note
The present model by Louis Carrier-Belleuse was first exhibited at the Salon in 1892. Louis Robert Carrier-Belleuse studied sculpture under his father Albert Ernest, and painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Salon from 1870 onwards and turned to sculpture in 1889. Like his father, interestingly, he also worked as a modeler for porcelain, and became art director of the Choisy-le-Roi factory Hautin, Boulenger & Co, one of the reknowned French earthenware factories established in 1804 by the Paillard brothers.
