La Renomée is a variation on the figure depicting literary fame which Barrias created as part of his monument to Victor Hugo (completed in 1902; destroyed in 1942). Barrias exhibited the independent statuette in silver and ivory at the Paris Salon in 1902. From around 1893 the Susse foundry offfered Barrias' La Renomée in bronze casts, as well as examples with the head, arms and legs in ivory.
