Catalogue Note
first edition. For Ziegenbalg's translation of sections of the Bible into Tamil, see Macclesfield Bibles, lots 2434 and 2444, and for Halle and the Danish missions in Tranquebar, the introduction to that catalogue (pp.14-16). Ziegenbalg had studied in Halle and was the first Lutheran missionary in Tranquebar, where he died in 1719.
