Catalogue Note
This edition, prepared by the prolific Joachim Camerarius (1500-1574), contains an amended version of the scholia, here relegated to the end, that had first appeared as an appendix to the Aldine Gemistius and Herodian (1503) and which appeared as a frame for the text in the 1526 Giunta edition. The scholia appeared, virtually unchanged, in editions until the beginning of the eighteenth century. The slightly incongruous woodcut initials include scenes of female ravishment, sulking satyrs and copulating coneys, as well as busts of Marc Antony and Agrippina.
