Catalogue Note

Sylburg studied under Estienne, whom he was later to assist in the writing of the monumental Greek Thesaurus (1572-1573, see lot 4454), before returning to his native Germany and taking on various teaching jobs. The present Grammar is an adjunct to the work that Sylburg had undertaken for a 1580 revision of Nicolas Clenardus's Institutiones in graecam linguam (Bakelants & Horen 246).
