Catalogue Note

These three works are all by writers of the late Classical period. Solinus's Polyhistor is taken largely from Pliny's Natural History, Censorinus writes on the life of man, based on Varro, and Terentianus's tract is a valuable discussion of metre and poetics based on Horace. The editor of the first two works, Elie Vinet (1509-1587), is better known as a teacher of Montaigne and the editor of Ausonius.
