Catalogue Note

third edition: "the rarest of all major editions of Ramus's works... this is also in many ways the most important edition, since it is the first to give the Ramist dialectic its definitive contours and the first to treat method as such" (Ong, p.49). Omer Talon (1510-1562), French humanist and disciple of Ramus, taught rhetoric at the Collège du Cardinal Lemoine in Paris. The condemnation of Ramus by François I in 1543 (the year of the first publication of this work) meant that he could neither teach nor issue works on dialectic.
