Catalogue Note

This work continues Postel's researches into ancient languages with a comparative study of the Latin, Greek and Phoenician alphabets. He appears to have realised that, to some extent, the forms making up the Greek and Latin alphabets were mirror images of the Phoenician counterparts. The Macclesfield copy has the two folding plates, one containing the first printed quotations from the Pentateuch, which are often lacking. The more common Gaulterot imprint was issued without tables.
