Catalogue Note
Dolce was a prolific editor for Gabriel Giolito from 1542 onwards. For this edition of his translation of Ovid into ottava rima, first published in 1553, he has added an "allegory" at the start and end of each section, a common feature in non-religious texts at this time, which was designed to expound the moral or spiritual values of a particular work.
