Catalogue Note

first edition. Begun by Maximilian I, who dictated it to his secretary Treitzsaurwein, and completed after his death in 1519 by Treitzsaurwein himself, this autobiographical romance was a supplement to his major work the Theuerdanck. The illustrations were drawn by Burgkmaier and Beck and cut by a group of Augsburg engravers. This first edition was published after the blocks, most of which are now preserved in Vienna, were rediscovered in Graz.
