folio (316 x 193mm.), [12], 719, [71]pp., illustration: woodcut arms of Poland on title-page, 2 large woodcut portraits of King Sigismund II Augustus, dated 1554, and King Sigismund I the Old, woodcut initials, binding: eighteenth-century mottled calf, spine gilt in compartments, a few early manuscript annotations in margins (some trimmed) and underlining in text, several small wormholes in text at beginning and end (one running through text)

Provenance

William Richard Patten (d. in or after 1598), ownership inscription at head of title-page dated 1565 (for a copy of Patten's Calender of scripture in the Macclesfield Library, see Macclesfield Theology, lot 2882).

Second edition, following the first of 1555. The Prince-Bishop Marcin Kromer was personal secretary to both Sigismund I the Old (1467-1548) and Sigismund II Augustus (1520-1572).
