Catalogue Note

A rare pamphlet account of the early period of the English Civil War and the events leading to it, including the marriage of Charles I with Henrietta Maria, the Scottish and Irish rebellion, the siege of Hull etc., with some classical parallels. On p. 96 we find the sentiment: "Finalement, Sire, si vous voulez r'avoir vostre auctorité, il le faut comparer a une pucelle. Elle ne donnera jamais la bonne grace a celuy, qui la veut ravir. Si vous ne la gagnez par courtoisie, elle ne vous aimera jamais de bon coeur...".
