Catalogue Note

Although its title and the charming crude woodcuts recall the first Spanish incunable with stylistically indigenous illustration, Enrique Villena's Los trabajos de Hercules (Zamora, 1483), Fernandez de Heredia's text rather belies expectation, being a collection of adages and allegories firmly in the emblem book tradition.
