Catalogue Note

A Latin-Hungarian (the Hungarian translation is by Stephanus Benjamin Szilagyi) adaptation of Comenius's 1633 Janua linguarum reserata. Brewer's press, established in 1625 and active until 1718, was at number 26 in Maestro Pavol Square. Many of Comenius's works were printed there, such as a Latin-German-Hungarian-Bohemian edition of Orbis sensualium pictus in 1685. For the 1672 edition of Orbis sensualium pictus see lot 4412, and for an English version of Comenius' Janua linguarum see Macclesfield English, lot 3923.
