first edition. Canini, a teacher of Latin, Greek and oriental languages in Venice, Padua, Rome and Bologna, went to Paris in 1554 where he taught at the Collège de Cambrai (Andreas Dudith, who provides an epigram at the start of this work, was one of his pupils there). This work is a seminal work in the history of Greek teaching in France in the sixteenth century, being responsible for the introduction of the Erasmian pronunciation of Greek.
