Catalogue Note
One of three editions of Belon's treatise on embalming issued in 1553; Belon's own annotated copy of this edition is in the Wellcome Library. Belon is primarily known for his studies of fish and birds, but during his research trips through Europe and the near East he also acquired other knowledge. The present work, on preserving corpses, explains the use of bitumen by the ancient Egyptians for mummies.
