This is an elegantly bound copy of an early example of a work printed throughout in civilité type. Daniel d'Auge held the Greek Chair at the Collège de France and was in the circle of such poets as Pierre de Ronsard, Joachim du Bellay and Jean-Antoine de Baif, members of the Pléiade group, although some of his own literary contributions were translations from Greek ecclesiastical works. Deux dialogues de l'invention poetique is not typical of his oeuvre; it is a French version of Alessandro Lionardi's Dialogi della inventione poetica of 1554.
