Catalogue Note

The first Lettish grammar had been Manductio ad linguam lettonicam facilis certa, monstrata (Riga, 1644) and Adolphi, along with Georg Mancelius, who is erroneusly credited with the authorship of Wörterbüchlein (see lot 4430) in the Macclesfield copy, did much to further knowledge of the workings of the Latvian language and boost national identity.
