Catalogue Note
The present work is from a sketch book of 1898 and bears marked similarites both in size and composition to another sketchbook of the same year that is inscribed on the cover 'Finished at Burton Port 1898' (see Pyle, op.cit, no.84-97). Yeats vistied Burtonport on the West Coast of Donegal in August 1898 and it is highly likely that he also executed the present work there. He always carried sketchbooks around with him wherever he travelled, recording the landscapes and people around him to use in future compositions.
