Catalogue Note

During the 1830s, Nicholl concentrated on illustrating the wild scenery of Ireland, especially the Antrim coast.  His topographical work was reproduced in various publications such as The Northern Coast of Ireland (circa 1830), Scenery of Ireland (circa 1835), which he illustrated in combination with G.Petrie and H.O'Neill, and Hall's Ireland (1841-3) which contains over one hundred illustrations of his drawings.  The works from this period for which he is best known are his highly original views of Irish coastal towns viewed through banks of wild flowers.
