  • height of strong box 11 in.; width 17 1/2 in.; depth 8 in.; height of ebonized box 8 1/4 in.; width 15 3/4 in.; depth 10 1/2 in.
  • 28 cm; 44.5 cm; 20.5 cm; 21 cm; 40 cm; 26.5 cm
with a rounded top with a handle opening to reveal a damask-lined interior with a clasp joining to a lock plate raised on bracket feet, the whole decorated with velvet damask and incised metal mounts with rounded nails. Together with an ebonized Dutch baroque small box.  2 pieces.

Condition

Strong box with distressed upholstery, as visible from the catalogue illustration. Back section missing its upholstery almost in its entirity. Worm damage in the back. Minor losses to iron work and oxidation to the top and front. Cracks to the mounts. Missing nails, added nails for support. The interior with tears and losses to the velvet. The ebonized box with old worm, wear and old chips to the decorated surfaces on later feet. Loss of molding to the side left bottom drawer. Re-ebonized.
