Catalogue Note

In the second quarter of the 18th century, weavers at Aubusson and Felletin followed the vogue for eastern exotica and began to incorporate elements of chinoiserie into the popular verdure avec oiseaux designs.  See Dominique Chevalier and Pascal Bertrand, Les tapisseries d'Aubusson et de Felletin, Paris, 1988, pp.128-131, for comparable examples.
