- A MICROMOSAIC TABLE , ITALIAN, 19TH CENTURY
- 92cm diameter, 75cm high
the circular micromosaic table top depicting 'Romulas and Remus', showing the female wolf nurturing two small naked babies amongst river rushes on the edge of a flowing stream, the outer circle inlaid with a selection of highly decorative hardstones, the frieze with an oval plaque inscribed 'Ballarat Agricultural and Pastorial Society for a Prize winning Ram, Tam O Shanter 1885' supported on a finely carved mahogany tripod base
Condition
good over all condition, slight areas of wear to the frieze and feet
top: currently covered by a bevelled glass top that does not site directly on the marble specimen or the micro mosaic circular panel; no losses or apparent restorations to the micro mosaic tiles which are all in good order; specimen pieces are in good condition and joins are tight; some surface scratching to glass;
table & base: has expected surface scratches and patina marks consistent with age; small hairline crack to top of one cabriole support
